Dis-Chem required the development of an app as part of its digital transformation strategy. The app, developed by Tangent Solutions, enables customers to track their Dis-Chem loyalty rewards; scan and get products prices; set reminders to pick up prescriptions and order repeat prescriptions online. Tangent Solutions included a Chat Bot to assist users when registering and ordering prescriptions. The Dis-Chem app also includes informative healthcare articles for users to read.

Business Challenge

Dis-Chem had a challenge with customers booking appointments for its clinics and beauty salons via its call centre. Its agents struggled to maintain a dedicated appointments book.

How we helped

The phase two roll-out of the app has a range of features making it easier for customers to manage their own appointments. Users can see available times and make their own bookings. They can also order repeat prescriptions, plus they get sent a reminder when to pick up their prescription.

Tangent Solutions introduced a Chat Bot, which helps customers order prescriptions. It also features various health related articles to educate customers on different health issues.

The app is built on Xamarin Native for Android and iOS and is e-commerce enabled. The API layer is deployed in Azure with integration to on-premises data centres that run SAP.


Three months after the app went live there has been an increase in the amount of appointments booked via the app. This digital solution has improved queuing time, reduced operational costs and delivered a secure and robust platform resulting in an improved  customer experience. The app is one of the first major improvements within Dis-Chem’s overall digital strategy.
